Coleman Sundome 2P review

Best for: One or two campers on sleeping pads in mild weather

A basic fiberglass dome that suits two people on pads in fair weather; the roof-only fly and single door are the trade-offs.

The Sundome 2 is a 7 x 5 ft dome with a 4 ft center height, one door, two windows and a ground vent. Coleman's WeatherTec floor uses welded corners and inverted seams, and the frame is wind-tested to 35 mph. The fly covers only the roof, with awnings over the door and window, so the side walls shed wind-driven rain on their own.

Good

  • Welded-corner tub floor and inverted seams to keep ground water out
  • 7.5 lb with poles, stakes and fly; packs to about 24 x 6 x 6 in
  • E-Port lets you run an extension cord inside

Watch for

  • Roof-only fly leaves the side walls exposed to blowing rain
  • One door, so the inside sleeper climbs over; fiberglass poles

Naturehike Mongar 2P review

Best for: Two campers who want two doors in a light, packable tent

A two-door, two-vestibule freestanding tent at 5.3 lb with footprint; the 53 in wide floor won't take a queen airbed, and 41 in is sit-up height.

This is the 210T polyester Mongar 2, not the 20D nylon version. A Y-frame of 7001 aluminum poles holds a B3 mesh inner, under a 210T polyester fly and above a 210T floor, both rated 3000 mm. The 82.7 x 53.2 in floor has a door and vestibule on each side. The whole set, footprint included, weighs 5.3 lb and packs to 19.7 x 5.9 in.

Good

  • Two doors and two vestibules, so neither sleeper climbs over the other
  • Footprint included; 5.3 lb for the whole set
  • Freestanding Y-frame on 7001 aluminum poles

Watch for

  • 53.2 in wide and 41.3 in tall: fits two pads, not a queen airbed
  • Mesh inner and a 3-season rating: Naturehike says it is not for snow
