Gear Gadget is operated by WEBSYSTEMS INC., an Ontario corporation. You can use the guides and kit builder without an account or giving us your name or email address.

Information used to run the site

When you visit, your browser sends an IP address, page address and device information. Cloudflare processes requests to deliver and protect the site. The kit builder uses your answers to assemble a gear list. We do not take payments or collect card details here.

Optional analytics and your choice

Analytics is off unless you choose to allow it. If you allow it, we use PostHog to measure page visits, kit choices, product-link clicks, scroll and section engagement, and site errors. Events can include the page and referring addresses, campaign tags, browser and device details, approximate location, and pseudonymous browser and session IDs. Our server also derives a daily-changing visitor ID from the IP address and browser information. Our first-party analytics relay forwards the IP address to PostHog for location detection. We do not use session replay or targeted advertising.

Changing your choice affects future analytics. It does not affect the kit builder or product links. You can ask us to delete earlier records using the contact details below.

Cookies and browser storage

We set a gg_analytics cookie for 180 days to remember your choice. If you allow analytics, PostHog and our site may use first-party cookies or browser storage for a browser ID and a session ID. Our session ID changes after 30 minutes without activity. An gg_internal cookie is used only when our own team marks a visit as internal. Cloudflare may use cookies for site security. Clearing your browser data removes stored choices and IDs from that browser.

Email updates

If you choose to subscribe, we send your email address to Beehiiv to manage the mailing list and confirmation. You can unsubscribe through the link in each email. We do not add kit-builder visitors to the list automatically.

Product links and commissions

Product links take you to Amazon, which may use its own cookies and process your information under its privacy notice. We may earn a commission if you buy through a link, at no extra cost to you. Our site records a product-link click in analytics only when you have allowed analytics.

Where information is processed

Cloudflare hosts the site, PostHog processes optional analytics, and Beehiiv manages voluntary email subscriptions. These providers may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where different laws may apply. Amazon handles visits and purchases on its own sites.

Access, correction and deletion

To ask what information we hold about you, request a correction or deletion, withdraw email consent, or raise a privacy concern, email [email protected]. Browser IDs are pseudonymous, so please include any ID or email address relevant to your request if you can. We may need to verify that a request concerns your information. Some records cannot be linked back to a person from the details we hold.

Children and changes

The site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If our practices change materially, we will update this page and ask for a new choice where required.
