Cloud Up 2 vs Mongar 2: the differences that matter
The Cloud Up 2 is the weight-first choice. Its tapered, single-entrance layout uses less structure and packs into a lighter shelter, but the end door and sloping walls are less convenient for two sleepers.
The Mongar 2 is the comfort-first choice. Its more symmetrical freestanding shape gives two people more usable room, and each sleeper gets a side door and vestibule. That makes nighttime exits and storing two sets of gear easier, at the cost of more carried weight.
- Solo hiking: Cloud Up 2, unless you value living space more than pack weight.
- Two-person hiking: Mongar 2 for easier access and better shared livability.
- Car camping: Mongar 2; the modest weight saving matters less beside the car.
- Lowest price: compare the cards above; prices and included footprints change by listing.
Model warning: “Cloud Up 2” and “Mongar 2” cover several fabric generations. Published weights, waterproof ratings and included accessories are not interchangeable. Naturehike Cloud Up 2 review
Best for: A solo camper, or a close pair, who wants a small, light tent
A light, small-packing tent at 4.25 lb, but the single front door and 51 in width make it tight for two adults and too narrow for a queen airbed.
The Base is Naturehike's polyester version of the Cloud Up: a freestanding double-wall tent on a one-piece aluminum pole frame, with the inner hanging from hooks. The fly is 210T ripstop polyester rated PU 3000 mm, and a PU 5000 mm footprint is included. The inner is 82.7 x 51.2 x 41.3 in with one front door and vestibule. It packs to 15.7 x 5.1 in and weighs 4.25 lb packed.
Good
- 4.25 lb packed, 15.7 x 5.1 in packed size: fits any corner of the trunk
- Footprint included (210T polyester, PU 5000 mm)
- Freestanding, so it pitches on gravel pads and wooden platforms
Watch for
- One front door: the inside sleeper climbs over to get out
- 51.2 in wide and 41.3 in tall: snug for two adults, no queen airbed

Best for: Two campers who want two doors in a light, packable tent
A two-door, two-vestibule freestanding tent at 5.3 lb with footprint; the 53 in wide floor won't take a queen airbed, and 41 in is sit-up height.
This is the 210T polyester Mongar 2, not the 20D nylon version. A Y-frame of 7001 aluminum poles holds a B3 mesh inner, under a 210T polyester fly and above a 210T floor, both rated 3000 mm. The 82.7 x 53.2 in floor has a door and vestibule on each side. The whole set, footprint included, weighs 5.3 lb and packs to 19.7 x 5.9 in.
Good
- Two doors and two vestibules, so neither sleeper climbs over the other
- Footprint included; 5.3 lb for the whole set
- Freestanding Y-frame on 7001 aluminum poles
Watch for
- 53.2 in wide and 41.3 in tall: fits two pads, not a queen airbed
- Mesh inner and a 3-season rating: Naturehike says it is not for snow

Common questions
Which one should I buy?
Choose the Cloud Up 2 for solo backpacking when lower weight and a smaller packed shelter matter most. Choose the Mongar 2 for two-person comfort: its symmetrical freestanding layout, two side doors and two vestibules make sharing the tent much easier. Check the exact fabric version before buying because Naturehike sells both models in multiple specifications.
Where do these specs come from?
From each maker’s product page and retailer spec sheets, linked under each review. We compare published specs and design; we have not tested these products. Check the listing for the exact version you are buying.
Is the Mongar 2 or Cloud Up 2 better for two people?
The Mongar 2 is generally better for two people because its symmetrical shape provides more usable room, while two side doors and two vestibules let either sleeper exit and store gear independently. The Cloud Up 2 makes more sense when minimizing carried weight is the priority.
Which is lighter, the Cloud Up 2 or Mongar 2?
The Cloud Up 2 is the lighter design in comparable fabric versions. Exact weights vary across 15D, 20D and other generations, so compare the stated version and included footprint rather than relying on the model name alone.
